what can be done with a broken collar bone?

my son harrison how is 18yrs,
broke his collar bone when he came off his motorbike, I have two doctor’s opinions, one is telling me that he will need to have an operation to straighten it out because he is into football and other sporting events and that if he lands on it again it could possibly rebreak and the other one is saying that we let it try to mend itself, if it doesn’t look like it is mending after 3 weeks that they will then consider sending him for the operation. What do you consider and will it mend itself without any complications further down the track

My nephew broke his three weeks ago. Clean break and wore a sling until today. Its going well. Personally I would lean toward the doctor who says see if its healing in three weeks. You have only lost 3 weeks and besides the other doctor said without surgery it might break again. It might break with or without surgery. Sounds like one doc needs a pay day.

I broke my leg in two places 29 years ago. I had no fancy doctor but just and old saw bones. He casted it and it has been fine. Today I believe some would have pinned it thinking about the X ray I saw.

My son broke his arm. A cauwley’s fracture. The emergency room doctor said it was too bad to set. A specialist siad he needed surgery. His colleage was called and consulted. End result it was set and healed well. No surgery.

Wait three weeks and see what happens I say.
